Nottingham, the home of (here come the stereotypes!) Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest, The Sheriff of Nottingham and that once great football team …Notts County! (Apologies Forest fans) It has acquired something of a reputation in recent years as being a prime destination for stag groups. It may have something to do with the urban myth relating to the ratio of women to men in the City.

A good central location within the UK. A wide choice of activities are available which have developed due to the popularity of the City as a stag destination. The city has an excellent nightlife with stag groups historically having few problems getting past the doormen. However it has been the victim of its own success which might explain why its popularity has started to wane in comparison to other destinations. Some problems have been experienced in the City centre in recent years given the numbers pouring in on the weekend.

Yes it sounds appealing and you’ll probably have a good time. However it could be so much better. Unfortunately Nottingham is yet another example of these homogenous towns we have increasingly replicated throughout the UK but particularly in England. The same usual suspects along the High Street, the same conglomerate chain restaurants, bars and even nightclubs. Familiar like an old pair of socks yes – a different and new experience it is not. For a stag weekend you want something different, a one off experience.

If you want something memorable and a real experience try outdoor adventure activities in natures’s real adventure playground – the Brecon Beacons National Park. This is the place to get up close and personal with the outdoors, challenge yourself with the only risk being you’ll have a great time. Get away from that urban jungle and experience the outdoors in Wales. Caving, climbing, canyoning, guided hill walks, mountaineering, surfing and coasteering would not be top of your list of activities for Nottingham.
