Barcelona, one of the new kids on the block but catching up with the old favourites such as Amsterdam and Paris. In a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain.

There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish. The city of Barcelona has a population of 1.510.000, but this number spirals to more than 4.000.000 if the outlying areas are also included.

The capital of Catalonia is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its geographic location but also and above all because of its history, culture and tradition.

Yes it sounds exciting and you will have a good time. However consider a few things before you ditch the UK for your stag weekend. Firstly the cost, the flights are not so cheap anymore. Take into account transfers to and from the airport as well and that price suddenly starts to increase. Delays with flights are another problem that can arise with budget airlines. This can be a problem if you only have a limited time available. Travel time is another issue – to and from the airport in the UK particularly if you only have a limited amount of time for the trip away. Finally if you intend it to be a big event you will find UK based stag weekends are more inclusive – more people will come for the reason outlined above.
